My volleyball career is still far from over.

If you yourself think that you don't have talent, then you'll probably never have it.

Oikawa is the literal definition of suave. He’s popular, has good looks, and is well known with the ladies (much to the dismay of a few people). When you first glance at him though you’d probably think he’s superficial and shallow, but, despite all the things he has going for him, he’s definitely not. Despite the reputation he has on the court and the things he says about himself, he truly genuinely cares about his team and the sport he plays. He wants nothing more than to see them go the distance and improve to the best of their abilities.

Oikawa has a special talent for volleyball. Of course, he’s no genius. He tailors each and every serve and set to his teammates. He’s also open to honest feedback as well. If a serve was too complicated or hard for one of his teammates to get to and they told him about it, he would definitely improve it the next time he tossed to them. His talent for the sport is on a completely different level than any other setter out there. And he didn’t just get there by coasting either. He worked hard to get where he is today. He has a very rigorous training schedule and once even injured himself in practice. Which explains why he wears a kneepad in the matches we’ve seen him play in. His playing on the court was once even compared to the directing of a music director on the stage. Each movement he has is precise just like the music the director cues in, and he’s the only one that can get it (his teammates) to come to life so beautifully. He draws out the fullest potential of each spiker.

Also an important thing to note would be that while Oikawa is a ladies man he will definitely break up with a girl he’s dating in order to focus completely on volleyball. It also seems that Oikawa can’t handle flattery when it’s coming from his teammates, and prefers it when they tell him that if they lose he has to buy the whole team dinner. He also seems to get along with children really well seeing as he coaches his nephew and other kids at the Lil Tykes Volleyball Classroom that’s held at a rec center in town.

Despite the cheerful/humorous air he has about him, he’s also incredibly serious. And almost always pairs a serious remark or comment shortly after saying something cheerful or funny. He is good at reading the air though and definitely does his best to brighten the mood when things go sour during a game with a few choice words of encouragements and compliments. Another thing Oikawa is really good at is being extremely observant. The night before a match he watches the recorded match of the team they’re going to play against the next day and picks apart everything. He makes sure he thoroughly combs through the match looking out for any weaknesses he can exploit. Which explains why he was easily able to catch on to Kageyama’s and Hinata’s quick attack. He also likes aiming his jump serve at people who can’t really block them either.

The one thing Oikawa truly despises and has an actual problem with is geniuses. He hates the fact that things come so naturally to them, and that when it comes to other people they have to struggle and work so hard in order to do something someone did effortlessly a few seconds ago. Which is the main reason as to why he greatly dislikes Tobio Kageyama. He feels inferior as a setter to him since things come so naturally to him. It’s also like being around Kageyama brings out the worst in him, too. He even lashed out at the poor boy when he asked for assistance on working out a few kinks on his jump serve. He even mockingly calls Kageyama Tobio-chan. Just to mess with and annoy him because he purposefully likes pushing Kageyama’s buttons. He even had his nephew take a picture of Kageyama bowing to him just so he could have proof of Tobio indebted to Oikawa-san!

The only person who can truly keep Oikawa in line would be his best friend Hajime Iwaizumi. It also might help that he’s the only one who doesn’t put up with Oikawa’s shit either, but semantics. He once threw a volleyball at Oikawa’s head in order to get him away from his fangirls so they could warm up for their match. Despite all of this though, they have a perfect synchronization with each other when they’re on the court. Iwaizumi is also the only one who has ever seen Oikawa at his truly lowest. Iwaizumi also has the uncanny ability to know when Oikawa is truly happy, too. They do push and pull each other, and Oikawa usually serves to Iwaizumi whenever he feels like he’s been pushed up against a wall.

Another important relationship to note would be his rivalry with Wakatoshi Ushijima. He has always lost to Ushijima and would love to win and rub it in his face for once. In fact it’s probably his main goal/dream to beat him in a match before they graduate.

Oikawa is one of the best all around setters in the prefecture. His power, game sense, and technique rank a 5/5, his jumping and stamina rank a 4/5, and his speed rank a 3/5. Oikawa’s talent mostly lies in his athletic ability and his skill of making full use of his team and bringing each one to their fullest potential. He’s also good at picking apart a teams/players weaknesses in a short amount of time on the court. One of the moves Oikawa is renowned for would be his powerful jump-serve. It does however take a lot of his focus in order to pinpoint the accuracy he needs the serve to be at. And because of this the coach oftentimes lets him take time-outs and breaks so he can regain the concentration to successfully execute the serve.
